  1. DIVE BOMB NEUBIBERG AIRFIELD

  3. Although the P-38 was the first Allied 
  4. fighter to engage the Luftwaffe's Me 163 
  5. rocket fighter, it never actually 
  6. encountered the Me 262.  This is mainly 
  7. due to the fact that the P-38 had been 
  8. mostly phased out of service in the 
  9. European Theater by the time the 262 
  10. arrived in number.  Had they met in 
  11. combat, the German jet would have held 
  12. the upper hand in every way except for 
  13. turning radius.  Like the other American 
  14. fighters, the P-38 would have needed an 
  15. initial altitude advantage of at least 3,000 
  16. feet to catch the Me 262, which possessed 
  17. a top speed over 120 mph faster than the 
  18. Lightning.

  22. Flying as the second element leader in a 
  23. finger four formation of P-38Js, follow 
  24. your flight leader as he flys toward 
  25. Neubiberg Luftwaffe airfield for a dive 
  26. bombing attack.  Watch the other planes in 
  27. your flight to see which ground structures 
  28. they are lining up with, and pick a target 
  29. they haven't chosen.

  31. Watch for Luftwaffe fighters defending 
  32. the airfield as you approach, and fend 
  33. them off if necessary before you make 
  34. your bombing run.
